and it doesn't have to be hitting too my parents never hit me but there was a lot of shaming not even malicious! but when you hear enough times 'oh you silly doof' even said with smile and love you fucking internalise that shit or seeing how parents treat each other! parenting is hard so many ways to fuck up a kid even without intent
